Thought for the Day -Tombs

Let not Ambition mock their useful Toil,
Their homely Joys and Destiny obscure;
Nor Grandeur hear with a disdainful Smile,
The short and simple Annals of the Poor.

The Boast of Heraldry, the Pomp of Pow'r,
And all that Beauty, all that Wealth e'er gave,
Awaits alike th' inevitable Hour.
The Paths of Glory lead but to the Grave.
- Thomas Grey, "An Elegy Wrote in a Country Church Yard" (1751)

Land belongs not to one people, but to all people. This earth is not man's home, but his tomb. It is for their tombs these men are fighting. There is nothing so horrible in this world as the tomb, the abode of the decaying bodies of men.
- 'Abdu'l-Baha, Paris Talks

  1. Great photo. How the snow both makes this a sad and desolate place - and at the same time offers a comforting blanket.

  4. I find myself gravitating to grave yards when I am in a new place, tavelling. I find them to be a place of please and rich in history and stories. Your photo took my breath away. It stirs the imagination and heart. So many stories ... if gravestones could whisper ... I enjoy your blog.
